Quorate is a concept B2B web platform for mid-market finance teams, where AI agents capture and code invoices, match them against purchase orders and receipts, reconcile transactions, and prepare payment runs — while the humans who remain accountable supervise, approve, correct, and stay confidently in control. It was designed end-to-end to answer one spine question: how much autonomy do you give an AI agent over real money, and how does a human stay confidently in control? The platform resolves a complex, multi-actor, high-accountability fintech domain into an interface that is both powerful and calm, built on three design pillars — evidence-based explainability, progressive friction, and earned autonomy. The whole case study was produced through an AI-augmented pipeline (Claude + Lovable + Loom, no Figma), with me acting as director: AI produces, I direct, decide, and reject.

This phase focuses on understanding both the business and the humans behind an agentic finance platform — analyzing the fastest-moving category in fintech, tearing down five live products, and mapping the needs of the accountable finance team who must supervise AI agents that move real money.
Reduce Cost per Invoice & Manual Hours
Agents absorb capture, coding, and matching so the same team handles multiples of today's volume, with savings measurable per invoice and per close cycle.
Accelerate the Month-End Close
Continuous agent-side reconciliation and pre-built exception queues compress the close by days, turning a monthly crunch into a supervised rolling process.
Error & Fraud Reduction
Catch duplicate payments, mis-coded entries, and manipulated or AI-generated fake invoices at machine speed — before money moves.
Audit Readiness by Default
Every action, human or agent, lands in an immutable, exportable trail so audit preparation becomes retrieval, not reconstruction.
Scale Without Headcount
Agents provide elastic capacity so growth in transaction volume no longer translates linearly into finance hiring.
Governance & Segregation of Duties
Approval hierarchies, maker-checker controls, and role-based permissions apply to agent actions exactly as they do to human actions — provably.
Cash-Flow Visibility & Payment Timing
Prepared-but-unreleased payment runs give treasury a real-time forward view of outflows, enabling early-payment discounts and deliberate timing.
Integrate, Don't Replace
The platform sits on top of the existing ERP and banking stack through connectors, with transparent sync status so trust in the numbers survives integration.
Adoption & Trust Building
Structured trust-building — visible track records, graduated autonomy, and contained error recovery — keeps professionals from quietly collapsing back to spreadsheets.
Data Security & Residency
Encryption, access controls, and regional residency options meet UAE and GCC deployment needs, making security posture a sales requirement, not only an engineering one.
Finance Controller — Primary
Owns integrity and approvals for the whole function; receives a designed supervisory workspace and is the primary user Quorate is built around.
AP Specialist — Secondary
Lives in the daily exception queue processing hundreds of invoices a month; receives a designed, keyboard-fast workspace.
CFO — Tertiary Actor
Approves runs above defined thresholds and consumes summaries; needs a thirty-second summary card with drill-down, not a workspace.
External Auditor — Tertiary Actor
Never logs in day-to-day; the immutable log, attribution primitive, and export design exist substantially for this silent user.
The AI Agents — A Designed Actor
New to persona work and central here: the agents' visibility, permissions, and behavior under uncertainty are designed deliverables that appear as a dedicated lane in the journey maps.
Mid-Market Companies (50–500)
Organizations large enough to feel invoice-volume pain — hundreds to thousands of invoices monthly — yet too lean for enterprise shared-services teams.
Visibility of Autonomous Work
Supervisors must absorb what agents did overnight in seconds — an attention-tiered command center (Needs you / Done / Watching) with a daily digest, replacing noisy chronological feeds.
Explainability at the Moment of Decision
At approval, the reviewer needs evidence, not a score — an inline evidence trail of matched PO, invoice crop, receipt, and vendor payment-history rather than '87% confident'.
Fast but Safe Approvals
Approving a 23-payment run must take minutes without decaying into a rubber stamp — deviation-first review and partial approval (approve 20, hold 3) as the default paradigm.
Contained Error Recovery
When the agent is wrong, correction must feel like managing a capable colleague — diff-style corrections with a track-record panel that places the single error in context.
Correction that Teaches
Every human fix becomes a learning signal confirmed in context, with the agent restating the learned rule in plain language — no separate training interface, no settings maze.
Calibrated, Per-Task Autonomy
Trust is not one dial — guardrail policies written as readable sentences scoped per task type, with hard caps on irreversible or fraud-vector tasks regardless of accuracy.
Accountability & Audit Traceability
'Who did this and what did they see?' must be answerable in one glance months later — agent attribution as a design-system primitive and an immutable audit log.
Role-Appropriate Experiences
One interface must serve three tempos — role-shaped defaults on shared surfaces, a summary-first CFO card, and auditor needs met through export and log design.
Ramp — Governed Autonomy
Market leader in agentic finance; its 'knows when to act, when to ask' framing and per-agent credentials inform Quorate's stance that humans hold final say over irreversible actions.
Basis — The Supervisor Role
Agents that pause at key decision points and ship entries with data used, mapping rationale, and confidence — the model for turning finance doers into reviewers.
Concourse — Explainability as Evidence
A transparency panel exposing agent reasoning with a verifiable audit trail, which Quorate extends from analysis stakes to payment stakes.
Digits — Exception-First Review
An autonomous general ledger that auto-books ~95% of transactions and routes the rest to a human exception Inbox, so attention goes only where judgment is needed.
Puzzle — Trust Vocabulary
Confidence states distinguishing verified entries from those needing review — the pre-agentic trust vocabulary that supervision UX builds upon.
The Opportunity Gap
Engineering is racing ahead of the experience: there is still no rigorous public design reference for supervision UX at payment stakes — the mid-market synthesis of controller-grade governance with operator-grade clarity.
I follow a user-centered, iterative design process to ensure solutions are both functional and defensible. For Quorate the entire pipeline is AI-augmented — Claude + Lovable + Loom, no Figma — with me acting as director across five consistent core stages:
